What is a living trust?

A living trust is a trust created for a trustor that is administered by another party while the trustor is still living. There are two main types of living trusts, revocable and irrevocable. One of the benefits of a living trust is that it avoids probate, therefore getting assets distributed more quickly than a traditional will would. Because probate proceedings are a matter of public record, a living trust also offers a far more confidentiality. In addition, trusts are typically much harder to contest than are wills.
